I started training in 2000 with Wing Chun Kung Fu and shortly afterwards i picked up Judo (I managed to obtain my Black Belt in 2005 from Reading Judo Club) to round out my skillset! 3 months after starting Judo I had my first taste of competition with a national grading, and I have been competing regularly ever since although in 2017 I chose to retire from active competitions so that I could concentrate on teaching. About 5 years into my study of Wing Chun I had to stop training in the Kung Fu style as I was asked to help teach Submission Grappling and MMA at a club my brother and I had joined. At this MMA club I got my first taste of BJJ and BJJ competitions but didn't take it too seriously until a few years later. It took me 7 years to get a Black Belt in this club's style of MMA at this time I put on a fresh white belt in BJJ and began the journey that would shape my life. It has been a long and difficult road from 2007 when I put on my BJJ white belt to 2022 when I finally received my overdue Black Belt from Dorian Tomkins at Basingstoke BJJ.

I have also competed in over 400 matches with various rules including Judo, Kickboxing, Japanese Jiu Jitsu, MMA (20+ matches Amateur to Pro), Submission Grappling/Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu – most of my successes have come in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which is what I have been concentrating on for the last few years.

I have been a successful coach since 2005, helping to produce MMA fighters as well as Grapplers who compete at various levels around the country.

I started training martial arts when I was seven in Karate and continued to do this up until the age of 24. Through Karate I discovered groundwork and instantly fell in love with it. Since then, I have made my main focus Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I firmly believe and know that it is possible for a smaller and less strong individual to be able to successfully defend him or herself by using the techniques that this art offers. I received my blue belt in 2008 by my instructor Steve Cowan of Brazilian Top Team in Norwich and since then have trained with the infamous Carlson Gracie team in London as well as the Griphouse in Glasgow. I now reside in Reading and train at UMMAH BJJ Maidenhead alongside BJJ Black Belt Scott Taylor and his brother BJJ Brown Belt Jamie Taylor. I am also a Black belt in Judo. I think its paramount to have a strong throwing game so that you can then utilize your ground game.
